Personally, I am most familiar with the city of Munich due to its world famous Oktoberfest that is held annually in the fall. Munich is also known as the home to the first ever brewery in the 1800s, and as the home to the 1972 World Olympics.
Whether you are visiting Munich to raise a glass (or a pint!), or simply to enjoy the city’s beauty and historical charm, you will not want to miss the awe-inspiring views from the Marienplatz, Church of St. Peter, or Olympic Tower.
This post is all about how to find the most impressive views in Munich!
1. Marienplatz – see Munich from the ground up
Significance of Marienplatz
Marienplatz is one of the most impressive views in Munich because it is a central hub, located right in the center square of Old Town. It is home to the Rathaus-Glockenspiel, which is a performative column on the New Town Hall. The Glockenspiel chimes and moves about during its regularly scheduled program. Each performance is ~15 minutes long, and is perfect to enjoy alongside a frozen dessert or a pint of beer.
When standing in Marienplatz, you may feel as though you are transported back in time. In the Middle Ages, the Marienplatz would have been home to bustling markets and intense tournaments. Today, locals and tourists crowd the streets in an ever-lasting buzz of activity.
Marienplatz is fantastic to visit in any season. In warmer months, make sure to find a walking tour that will help you take in the full scenery of the central square. In winter, Marienplatz is home to Munich’s Christmas Market.
Getting to Marienplatz
Luckily, Marienplatz will not be hard to find! In Munich, Marienplatz is the central square in Old Town. Likely, your accommodations will be nearby. If not, there is a high chance that you may travel through the Munich Marienplatz station when first arriving to Munich.
Marienplatz will be a perfect central location to refer back to through out your travels in Munich. Here, you will have access to both the U-Bahn and S-Bahn transport systems.

2. Church of St. Peter – the best panoramic view of Munich
What will you see?
The Church of St. Peter is a historical landmark in Munich, and is the city’s oldest parish.
Also known as “Alter Peter” (Old Peter), the Church of St. Peter is one of the most spectacular views in Munich. When you climb the steps to the church’s observation deck, you will take in an impressive panoramic view. As if this wasn’t enough, the interior of the church is wonderfully preserved and will absolutely blow you away with its beauty.

Hint: Try downloading an offline version of google maps! Public transport is convenient and assessable, but make take a bit of trial and error. With a downloaded offline map, you will have peace of mind.
The Church of St. Peter is close by to Marienplatz, and is located right in Munich’s city center. If you are already in Marienplatz, there is no train, bus, or bike needed – walking will do! Otherwise, follow your preferred route to the central Munich Marienplatz station.
Once arrived at the church, be prepared to embark on a journey of 300+ steps to bring you to the top of the observation deck. Trust me – the climb is worth it!

3. Olympic Tower – a whole new point of view
All about the Olympic Tower and Why You Should Visit
Did you know that Munich was home to the 1972 World Olympics? Today, the grounds are kept in pristine condition. From the expertly manicured lawns to the still-in-use athletic structures, the scenery is sure to impress.
The best way to take in the view will be to visit the Olympic Tower. From here, you will enjoy panoramic views of the grounds, as well as an impressive cityscape in the foreground.

The grounds are insanely impressive. Whether you are an athlete or just a spectator, it is pretty inspiring to take in the many views at the olympic park – especially if you visit the olympic tower.
Where is the Olympic Tower?
You may see the olympic park generally referred to as “Olympiapark“. Within Olympiapark is the Olympic Tower. Of course, once you are in the park, the tower will be hard to miss. Getting to the park, on the other hand, may take some planning.
For the fastest journey, I recommend to take the U-Bahn.
